I work as a waiter in Vancouver BC, at a place that is pretty close to several film studios. We get a lot of film people at night, especially on the weekends. A lot of the local "name actors" are regulars. I have served Jewel Staite, Jason Priestley, Seth Rogen, Blu Mankuma, and Britt Irvin on several occasions. They don't leave quite as much as you say Dan Aykroyd does, but I have never gotten less than 20% from any of them.
American actors who come into town can be very bipolar when tipping. Some are great, some are lousy.
The IOC members who have been coming in lately, because of the Olympics in town, are mediocre at best. Usually 10% or less. Many do not tip at all.

I want to go to the bar Obama was at. I don't think it's possible to get a beer for $2 at a bar in Milwaukee.

Cory,
yea I agree it isn't really info, per se, but I do find it encouraging when I see people blessing others - regardless of who they are. But as discussed a few comments earlier, our society is so into bashing celebrities, that I thought it would be nice to shine a light on some of their good deeds. But, you don't have to worry CPF won't become a celebrity gossip site any time soon ;)

It is easy to tip when you are rich! I guess I don't get why this info. is pertinent or helpful, but yeah for those who are blessed by generosity. Being in the know with celebrities is of little interest to my husband or I. Very few celebrities show the kind of character & values that we feel are important so we do not encourage our sons to get caught up in it. So I suppose I will be dubbed a dissenter, but I will say that of all your posts Bob, this is my least favorite. Normally, I love to read what you share and truly appreciate your financial information. I have been blessed greatly and have used what I learn many times over. Thank you!

Bob, you deserve a real thumbs up for posting this story. Celebrity bashing is a common participation sport, regrettably even and often especially in the Christian community.

While it's no doubt that a lot of celebrities are most definately "out there" with their behavior and lifestyles, we shouldn't paint with so broad a brush, especially as Christians. There's some good in all of us, and certainly leaving very generous tips to people who may not be important in their lives qualifies as an act of kindness that needs to be commended.

We might want to put aside the obvious excess of it all too, since that's kind of normal in the world they live in. It's still an expression of generosity. I'd be more disturbed if we found out about a $4400 restaruant bill with a $200 tip. Now THAT would be something to complain about.

Does a $4,400 restaurant bill taste better than mom's free home cookin'?
And does a $2,000 bottle of wine taste better than my usual Yellowtale?

Maybe, but I think I'll stay on the road to financial independence by learning how to manage my money and not blowing a months wages on dinner. One Dinner!? Are you sure that wasn't a years tab?

Cheers,
