06.29.2008 by Bob 7 comments

After spending a good chunk of change on my wife’s engagement ring a few years ago, I was a little bit annoyed to read this article about new diamond technology. … They are so good in fact that the writer of the article went to a jeweler with one of the stones to get an unbiased assessment of the diamond’s quality: …

…I will not be pawning my wife’s ring anytime soon, but it may be something to keep in mind before spending your hard-earned cash on a new diamond.

Seth Godin’s one piece of financial advice

06.24.2008 by Bob 0 comments

Seth Godin, one of the premier marketing gurus of our time, recently wrote a post for “college grads or just about anyone.” I have read a few of Seth’s books, including a personal finance book he wrote, and have always had a lot of respect for him. He is a great marketer, but more importantly he really seems to be a honest guy trying to do the right thing. He has taken the long-term approach to doing things and it seems to have paid off for him.

Saving money with your car

06.18.2008 by Bob 7 comments

The Consumer Reports editors did a test and compared buying a Honda Civic EX and driving it for 15 years (225,000 miles) and buying a new one every 5 years.
