09.30.2008 by Bob 103 comments

All about tithing in the new testament… Some say it was only an Old Testament Law that doesn’t need to be followed as believers under the New Covenant. And some say that it is just a relevant to New Testament Christians as it was in the Old Covenant.

Digital Photo Keychain Giveaway

09.26.2008 by Bob 0 comments

I was trying to figure out what to give away this week and I stumbled across the idea of a digital photo keychain. It is kind of a cool little gadget that some people would be interested in. Since going through my “minimalist living” phase, I don’t think I would want this on my keychain. Well maybe, if I could get down to one master key that opened all the locks I use. But, anyway, the thing is pretty small and holds something like 60 pictures.

Flood damage to cars

09.25.2008 by Bob 1 comment

Doing a bit of research about flood damaged cars, my sister quickly came to the conclusion that no one really wants to buy a flood car. She found page after page talking about why you should never buy a car that has been in a flood or how to tell if a car has had flood damage. Since there have been so many hurricanes and floods in recent years this seems to be a cause for concern when buying a used car. Once a car has had flood damage..

A Christian perspective on the financial crisis

09.24.2008 by Bob 9 comments

The why behind the mortgage crisis and the economy right now from a Biblical perspective. There are plenty of root causes for the present crisis, depending on whom you ask and where you look. Some point to the several years of artificially low interest rates from the Federal Reserve Bank. These led to an explosion of home building and enabled families to stretch into larger houses. Others blame lenders for creatively introducing no-documentation and interest-only loans as a temptation to over-extended buyers. There is certainly individual responsibility involved whenever anyone signs the imposing mortgage document packet. In any case, many people borrowed money to purchase houses and this increase in demand increased the price of houses.

9 Creative ways to say thank you

09.22.2008 by Bob 4 comments

These are my favorite creative ways to say thank you… A lot of respect can be earned or lost by our ability to say thanks. It may not be the way it should be, but some people really take offense if they don’t receive a thank you card within 30 days of sending a wedding gift. And have you ever held the door for someone who didn’t even acknowledge your presence, much less say, “thanks”?

Drive your new car for 2 years and sell it for a profit?

09.21.2008 by Bob 6 comments

2007 Honda Fit … Last weekend I discovered that the going price for cars with great gas mileage is still rising. I decided, just for kicks, to see what prices people were selling 2007 Honda Fits – which we have. It turns out that many people are selling the exact model that we have with similar mileage for MORE than we paid two years ago!

SmartMoney giveaway – 2 years!

09.19.2008 by Bob 0 comments

I have been a subscriber of SmartMoney magazine for many years now – maybe 5 or 6? But, while I like Money Magazine the best in it’s scope and bottom line simplicity, I have been a big fan of SmartMoney as well. I must say, I could be slightly biased because I bought a stock that SmartMoney recommended a few years back that tripled in about 3 years. That more than paid for a lifetime subscription to SmartMoney for me ;)

Simply pour a cup of boiling water down your throat and presto, the blockage will be almost instantly removed. 2. Clumsy? Avoid cutting yourself while slicing vegetables by getting someone else to hold them while you chop away. 3. You can avoid arguments with the Mrs. about lifting the toilet seat just by using the sink.

The hardest financial habit to break

09.17.2008 by Bob 7 comments

Breaking the habit of discontentment… I was recently asked what the most difficult habit to break was as I started getting my finances in order. I think for me, it was breaking the habit of discontentment. I used to see something I wanted and I would want it so bad that I would not be happy until I got it. It has taken a while to break this bad habit and replace it with a good one, but I really believe it has been one of the most valuable moves I made…
