Surviving the inevitable Credit Card crisis

12.31.2008 by Bob 4 comments

This isn’t really surprising if you think about it, but we can be sure that the credit card companies will be changing some policies as they adapt.

…The good news is that there have been so many complaints over the last few years that the government has stepped in and is creating new rules to prevent credit card companies from doing this. … Card companies will have to give consumers 45 days notice of any interest rate changes, up from the 15-day notice period currently in force, and give them more time to make payments.

Now is the time to get the Christmas deals

12.30.2008 by Bob 5 comments

This is one of those money-saving tips that is oh-so-obvious, but it bears repeating. Right now, you can pick up all those Christmas items for a fraction of the cost. I know we need one of those containers that holds all the wrapping paper and related items. Right now our closet shelf is just filled with all that junk! I think we are also going to pick up some stockings. The last two years we stocked up on ornaments a few days after Christmas and got some great bargains!

I just finished James O’Donnell’s book called The Shortest Investment Book Ever: Wall Street Secrets for Making Every Dollar Count. Long title isn’t it? Like the title suggests it is short – about 140 pages and it is smaller in size as well.

ING Direct free ATMs

12.21.2008 by Bob 2 comments

How to find a free ATM for ING Direct customers… As much as I love ING Direct, I have always been frustrated that every time I go to an ATM I have to pay a fee. I remembered reading that they had 25,000 ATMs across the nation, but I still seemed to be paying a fee every time. Turns out I have 5 ING ATMs less than 5 miles from my house. And another 78 within 20 miles. Oops.

Help me find the best Christian Financial websites

12.18.2008 by Bob 26 comments

I am in the process of creating a list of the best Christian Financial websites that I can find. I have found quite a bit, but I am sure there are just as many that I am not aware of. This is where you come in. If you have a site dealing in some way with financial issues from a Christian perspective please share it in the comments below. Alternatively, if you know of or have a site that deals with financial issues, but isn’t overtly “Christian”, but is run by Christians let me know that as well. Feel free to write a bit about some of the site features or what you like about it.

Is it your job to prevent the Big 3 from going under?

12.17.2008 by Bob 19 comments

As my radio alarm clock was playing this morning I heard a Chevy commercial with the dealership owner all basically begging people to buy American cars. I have a few thoughts about the Big 3 bailout issue. I don’t claim to know all the details of exactly what’s going on with the whole thing, so please feel free to share your insight in the comments below.
