Video Intro

If you haven’t checked your credit report in a while, lets do it today. While there are many sites that will charge you to check it, you can get a copy of your report from the big 3 credit reporting agencies for free by getting it from AnnualCreditReport.com

Even if you don’t plan on buying a house any time soon, I recommend checking your report for errors now. I waited until just a couple months before purchasing a house and I found out the hard way that getting credit report errors removed can be very time consuming.

You don’t want to be in a situation where an error causes you to get a higher interest rate on your loan, so do yourself a favor and spend a few minutes to check it for errors!

If you want to pay for a credit monitoring service (which you probably don’t need if you do this regularly) TrustedID is one of the best (and cheapest) ones out there.

Homework:

  1. Go to AnnualCreditReport.com and get a copy of your 3 credit reports for free.
  2. Check to be sure each is accurate

Thanks for this how-to article Bob. I almost got sucked in once by a website that purported to be the ‘official’ way to get your free credit report. Then they asked for my credit card number and I figured that was a little fishy. Turns out they were scamming people all over the US. BTW, I love dark chocolate too, but my wife prefers creamy milk chocolate. Maybe the dark is a guy thing? Who knows? :)

God bless you!

Josh

What are your thoughts on Credit Karma’s new credit tracking program?

Tyler, I am not sure, I haven’t looked into it. Have you? What do you think?

I enrolled recently, and so far I like it. Everything I have is free, and it offers notifications for changes in your accounts and scores. It even includes auto insurance and vantage scores, which were new to me. There are a lot of offers for new credit cards or bank accounts to save money here and there, but I’m not really paying much attention to those. I just use it to monitor my scores, and it gets the job done.
