Living Well on $20,000 a Year

by Bob on December 17, 2011

A reader passed along an interesting story of a family who is doing quite well on $20,000 a year. And their home looks like half the stuff you see all over pinterest.

I like stories like this because it illustrates that there isn’t necessarily a correlation between living nice and income. Living a nice life – regardless of my paycheck – has been something I have always strived for. Anyway, check out the video below:

UPDATE: Sorry everyone, but it looks like MSN has removed the video. I looked all over the internet for another version and couldn’t find one. If anyone does, please let us know in the comments!

Thanks for sharing, Bob. I thought “Off the Grid” meant not having electricity, but I’m not willing to give mine up yet, either. The comments at the end were so right on…it’s not about “how” to do it, it’s about changing your mindset and your ideals of what is important in your life.

The only downside to this story is that they are depending on the state government to provide their health care. Perhaps the husband should work a few more hours a week to provide that instead of relying on others’ tax dollars.
