SNL recently had this skit called “Don’t buy stuff you can’t afford” and while I didn’t really think it was very funny (but what is on SNL?) it appeared to me to be more of a public service announcement. Watching it, I got the feeling that Loren Michaels (or whatever his name is) was trying to offer a 2 minute section of his show to help those who need it, in a humorous sort of way. Thanks FTF!

Bob,
Great post and skit. It’s sad but I think so many people are exactly like that couple. They just don’t get it. It’s the need for immediate gratification without thinking of the long term cost in credit cards bills and interest.
I thought it was hilarious and have forwarded on. Thanks for sharing. The trailer was saying it was from March 2006. If it really was aired in 2006 and folks took that advice, I wonder where our economy would have been at 2008.
I saw it mainly as a parody of those infomercials for books and video systems that basically peddle common sense. It does hit so close to home, however, that it could have the effect of a PSA!
Not that recent but you still get points for posting one of my all time favorite skits on SNL. We know so many people that cannot conceive in their minds that they could actually save up and pay for a car.
I use this skit in my FPU classes. It is funny when you watch it, but a lot of people actually “buy things they cannot afford” and then wonder why they can’t seem to make ends meet.

This skit is great! The skit aired sometime in early 06 right when the national savings rate was turning negative.

hmmm… I didn’t see it on TV recently, when I found it though, I thought it said it was recently aired, but apparently I am wrong

You’re very welcome
I thought this was hilarious!
ROTFL
Well, I am glad some people found it funny – maybe I should watch it again to see what I missed!
