Five love languages five languages of love book.jpg

While Linda and I were engaged we read the Five Love Languages together. We didn’t know there were five languages to express our love and It didn’t much make sense why we should be reading this book together, because we hadn’t even had our first “fight” yet. We were in engagement bliss ;) I think I actually said, “there is nothing you can do to annoy me.” I am laughing out loud at myself as I write this.

But even as the engagement bliss and newlywed phase wore off, we do have a very solid foundation that I am extremely thankful for. There were a few good marriage books that we read early on and Gary Chapman’s Five Love Languages was one of them.

The basic premise of the books is that most people have ways in which they give and receive love: their love language. If a wife feels loved when her husband spends time with her, but the husband keeps buying gifts trying to show his love – there are probably going to be problems. The book does a good job of helping the reader discover what his or her language is and their spouse’s as well.

I am all for learning how to improve areas of my life, including my marriage. Proverbs 1:5 says, “A wise man will hear and increase in learning.” This is a good book for those who might not be interested in the traditional “marriage” books. It is an easy read, the concept is simple and very practical as well.

Bob,
Great book and give-away. I just finished reading it for the first time and even after 26 yrs of marriage, it gave me new insight to our relationship. Well worth reading for anyone, married or single.
