    Default Any ideas for making extra money on the side?

    I am a single mom working 2 full-time jobs but trying to make some extra money on the side to pay off some credit card debt. I need something I could do that would not require a babysitter. Thanks!!

    Clarinda

    First step - easy to do - will get you a bit - sell stuff on ebay. Clear out that house of junk and make money.

    1. Get a paypal account and ebay account.
    2. But ten small items and get your ebay feedback score to 10 or more
    3. Take 3 good photos of the items to be sold.
    4. Use the ebay auction listing page to list your item. Only accept paypal.
    5. Have two photos of the item in the auction listing.
    6. Give accurate factual description of item. Be honest.
    7. Have a low starting price on the auction

    Grow to enjoy making money rather than spending money.

    In addition to bob's excellent articles (which you SHOULD read by the way), I wrote a few on ways to make extra money:

    and here's an excellent one that was picked up on MSN:

    You are working hard. There is a way that I have learned, you just need to be sure and research the company you choose very well.

    Over the past 22 years I have kept my eyes open for alternate ways to earn income, from taking on extra jobs in the evening, to selling on yahoo, ebay and amazon. Frankly, most methods require trading hours for dollars, and as soon as the effort stops, so did the income. In other words, the majority of so-called business opportunities on line or offline involve giving up a lot of time, sometimes a lot of money, in exchange for possible profits. The problem is, most of the income from any of these businesses that I've gotten involved with disappeared as soon as I was either unable to perform, ran out of money to continue it, or faced a decline in demand. My own background is in Banking and Taxation, Marketing, networking and business development consultation. I have studied and tested so many different methods to make money that I have concluded that the only true way to develop an alterative, and permanent income is to go into your own business, at minimal cost or investment, and put in 5-10 hours per week in developing that business with passion. The business MUST provide solutions to problems that people are facing. If you can find out what the needs are, then provide a solution to that need, you can and will make money. Surveys, mystery shopping, get rich quick deals, the next great juice company, none of these will provide long term residual income.

    For any business to be successful, it needs 1. Knowledge of what is needed in a given market, and 2. A simple way to fill that need at a profit. Simple concepts, but not always easy to implement. What I have done is to study various markets, find out what problems people are seeking solutions for, and develop or provide solutions to those people.

    Search your heart for what you are passionate about, then you can use your own passions to provide tips to others interested in that same subject. Writing articles, creating a newsletter, or giving talks at networking events in your area, are great ways to get yourself out into the market. It takes time, but its worth it.

    Although not a whole lot, you can also make some money on the side by doing surveys and participating in marketing research. There are lot of companies which you can join for free.

    If you can learn to mystery shop, I have found it to be pretty decent money if you select only high-paying (over $10) shops that are already on your existing routes.

    I mystery shop banks and electronics stores (at $12-15 for a 15 minute shop and 15 minute form entry), but also get free oil changes for both of our cars every three months and occasionally do meal shops or entertainment shops, too.

    If you could do even just one of these on your lunch break or on your way to/from work a few days a week, then enter the data at home after your kids go to bed, you could raise your weekly income by as much as $50, or $200/month. This has been a blessing for our family, as my husband has been laid off for nearly a year.

    It can seem like a lot of work at first, but over time you will get better at it and it will be easier. To find legitimate companies, visit mysteryshop .org

    My wife sells Avon and is a stay-at-home mom. This is her second year and she actually made a profit this year. It helps that we get a big discount on our personal stuff too.

    I do computer work on the side and sort of by accident. I don't advertise myself but friends, co-workers and family look for me when they need help because my real job deals with technology. Initially it got overwhelming because I would not charge or I charged really low amounts relative to the time I was spending. I had to start charging just to keep everything in check. I don't make house calls either. If someone really wants my help and is willing to pay, they will bring me their equipment. Some people call me harsh, but I think it's only fair.

    I would advise that if you want something you can do from your own home then it should be connected with the internet. The internet has thousands of opportunities, but also many pitfalls, so tread carefully.

    A forum I have found to be the largest, best, and most legit and honest on information about making money on the internet is the Warrior's Form. Packed with tons of info, it can give you ideas, answer your questions etc.

    Good luck! I am currently a stay-at-home Mom, and have been working online for several months now.
    Genuine concern for others is a lifestyle more than a technique.

    I would take a look at your own hobbies and passions and start blogging about them.

    For example I'm a pretty avid rock climber, and I'm thinking of setting up a little blog of rock climbing equipment reviews and rock climbing route reviews. You make money off traffic and advertising, and it's a simple way to get out there and make a little residual income.

    One thing a lot of people are doing is whenever they go out to a new restaurant they take pics of the food, the venue and review the restaurant and post it on their foodie blog.

    Here is a real legitimate business opportunity that anyone can do Offline or Online with no investment. Sell to Small business owners in your local community during your spare time. Most of them sign up from your replicated website. So you really don't need to go out of the house and meet with them face to face. You can do this a few hours everyday in your spare time.

    The only thing is, practice good business ethics and make sure you call and talk to the owner, letting him/her know that you would like to send them some information that would help the growth of their business.

    Also mention in your email that you would follow-up with them in a day or two. That is to remind them because those are the kinds of things that don't normally stay up on their radar.

    I am an affiliate, so of course, it is natural that I provide my affiliate link.

    There is no investment involved, it is a residual income type of business and even the flyers are free to download and print.

    Hoping the best for you.

    The main thing you need to provide is something that is beneficial to your niche. It can either be a product or it can simply be informative information. If it's the latter then you need to be an expert in that field in order to provide constant and relevant information to your followers, you want to give them a reason to keep coming back to you.

    Default Freelancing/consulting is a solid, reputable work-from-home way to earn extra cash

    I truly think that freelancing/consulting is a great business model--either as a side business or with the intent of building it into your full-time endeavor--because a freelance/consulting business has:
    -->very low start-up costs,
    -->flexible hours,
    -->a high hourly pay rate, and
    -->you likely already have the expertise to get started.
    In addition, consulting is a simple business model that let's you learn the ropes of running and growing a successful business.

    Every business is different, but what I've found from running my own consulting business for nearly 5 years is:
    -->I make MUCH more than I ever did at a day job. I've actually been able to QUADRUPLE my former salary.
    -->I work less.
    -->I have more flexibility.
    -->I have less stress.
    -->I have equivalent benefits (e.g., health insurance, retirement)

    That's not to say it's easy or is never stressful. Like any business, the income can be variable, but I've found that my income varies within a relatively small range, and even at the lower end of the range, I'm still able to cover my family's expenses, and my wife has not had to get a job.

    Starting out was a bit slow, so I'd suggest starting a business as a side-hustle while keeping your day job. That way, you learn how to properly run a business, and can grow it to a point where you can ditch your day job. That's essentially what I ended up doing. After consulting for a while, I realized that my time spent at my day job was getting in the way of how much I could earn consulting; at that point, I went part-time at my day job while I ramped up my business, and a couple months later, quit my day job completely.

    It's truly been life-changing, and has completely changed my worldview; I'm no longer dependent on a single employer, and I continually see new business opportunities.

    As a result of my daily efforts to build my own business and make it succeed, I feel empowered and happier. I complain less, and when I find myself complaining, I try to refocus on how I can change the situation instead of just bellyaching about it. I'm modeling those behaviors for my kids as well, and teaching them about entrepreneurship and how it can lead to greater independence.

    You can check out an interview I recently did where I talk about how I made the switch from employee to consultant, and where I talk about some of my initial fears & doubts, and give actual income & rate numbers:
