Default Seeking help finding way to generate income from home that doesn't require an "investment/starter" fee....

I'm seeking help finding a way to generate income from home that doesn't require an "investment/starter" fee. I had to quit a job I loved caring for the developmentally disabled after finding out that I have arthritis in my back; called spinal stenosis which means that I can't work outside my home so I'm looking to find a work from home job that won't cost me anything but time and commitment as well as diligence so if you know of one or more you can contact me here or if you like you can request my personal email address to continue correspondence outside the forum.

Thank You and God Bless You,
    Teri

You have to be very careful with the work at home jobs. There are a lot of scams out there. The only way I know of to have a decent at home job is to already have a technical based job and then get your boss to agree to let you telecommute. Any computer based job is possible for that.

There are very few jobs available for virtual assistances that may pay half decent.

There are several ways to earn a LITTLE bit of money online, certainly not an income, but a couple supplemental bucks.

I've posted a link to a bunch of survey sites. These are legitimate, no start up cost, but you don't earn much.

Honestly swag bucks is my favorite way to get $5 amazon gift cards every few weeks or so. I have a link in my signature.

Other than that, be very careful, there are a lot of scams out there. Some of which are phishing for your information, and some which require a fake "start up fee".

I would also consider freelance writing. This is great for homebound folks that have some basic writing skills and can surf the 'net pretty well. There are no start up costs or scams or anything like that. When you first start out you won't be making a ton of money. But it's good money for side income and definitely more than $0. You also can get paid to do things you might normally do anyway, like hand out free professional advice or review a restaurant/hotel online.
I was making $300 per week off of 10 hours work when I was hitting it hard through sites like eHow. With Associated Content I was making around $6 or $7 for local restaurant reviews plus residual money. Trust me, you don't need a professional writing degree to do it. Hi Teri,

I do know of a home based coupon business you could do, but it does require a small investment. It sounds like you're looking for a job not a business. I haven't found much online that's really worth putting effort into but I'll let you know if I find something!

I have spent a lot of time learning about the internet and how to make money online, primarily because where I live geographically does not offer a lot of options, so going online is my only option. First of all, you need to realize that there are many ways to make money online. There are many ways, but they are not all for everyone. For example, some people fill out surveys, but that is too time-consuming for me and so I am not interested. Like anything in the offline world, there has to be a product and/or service that people want and will pay for to make money. There is a prevailing idea that you can push a button and somehow online you can make money. That button does not exist. One option to make money is to go to sites like elance.com or fiverr.com For example, at fiverr.com people offer to do all sorts of things for $5. You may have a great recipe, an ebook, be able to write an article or two or any number of things...take a picture of the seashore (that someone might want to purchase as an image for a book, or website, etc.), whatever, and post it for $5. I have used people at fiverr for things I was not that adept at, with good success. Elance and other sites offer the option to do article writing or various kinds of work. Of course, this is work that you need to do on a piecemeal basis, but if you are very good at what you do, whatever that is, you might get business. There are other sites like fiverr but they are more expensive, like $10 or $20 per job. For example, I am thinking of finding someone who offers a sewing service as it is too difficult for me to find simple things at stores. You never know what someone may offer or what someone may need. If you have written a book, you can promote it online. I listened to an architect once describe how he went from being an offline architect to creating simple plans for sheds for people to buy and build. He took his talent and used it in a creative way. In terms of learning internet marketing as a professional business, it will cost you in both time and money. I can tell you though, that I personally know a number of highly successful internet marketers who make a full time income. The thing is, if you go that route, know that you will have to pay certain business expenses (just as you would if you opened a store or did any kind of offline business...even with Avon or Mary Kay people have to buy the catalogs they give to people). However, the expenses can be much less than an offline business (if you don't get lost along the way). If you are truly looking for zero cost, then I would recommend fiverr and elance and related sites and seek to see if you can offer something people want. It all depends on what you want and how much time you have to devote. But there is no push button. Don't look for one. 95%-97%-99% of people who seek to make money online fail because they go into it with false expectations. Expect a learning curve, just as if you went to a community college or college to learn a trade. You will spend time and money, but it will be worth the effort if you see it through to the end. Sorry for the long post, but I am trying to give you a good idea of what is involved here.

    Hello Teri,
I would hardly call what I've managed to achieve through this method an income, but I thought I'd share. Before I get into detail though, I'd like to state clearly that this would definitely fall under Multi-Level Marketing. I know that it's not for everyone and I thought I'd give those folks an opportunity to forgo reading the rest of this.

It's a brand new company that just launched on April 17, 2011. It's main objective is to connect advertisers to a direct audience, you. To participate, you watch these advertiser's commercials and rate them. In return, for each commercial you view directly you are awarded an entry into a weekly jackpot drawing. In addition, if you have some friends that would like to participate, you get paid for any commercials that they watch and rate. The money that you earn comes from the advertisers, so registration and participation are completely free.
As far as earning potential, I haven't seen anything significant yet. I've only tried it for six days now and I've made only made 17 cents so far with six people sponsored under me. I try to be realistic and honest about my expectations. I don't think this will get anyone rich and participation is definitely vital to success. However, I think the company has great potential to grow. That factored in with the whole 'free' aspect has been enough for me to give it a shot.

Feel free to run any checks and balances that you feel necessary on the company, but if you do sign up, I would greatly appreciate it if you used Varolo link. (edited, no affiliate link) - I've matured.

Varolo now pays people for their own views as well now.

I would & do give the freelance writer job a big thumbs up. If you like writing or are good at it, that is. Also, at fiveer.com, you could post something for free that you would be willing to do for someone for $5.00. Believe me, there are all kinds of things and talents being offered on fiveer.com. To help you get ideas of things you could do for $5.00, check out fiveer to see what others are offering to do for $5.00.

Another place that you could do some research on for money making opportunities from home is the Warrior's Forum. Their Warrior's Special Offers section is a place you can find good offers at discounts, or even posts your own offer to do something like writing articles for others. Be sure to read all their rules before posting, as they are strict and will ban anyone from their forum that does not follow their rules. You will need to register (which is free, and the information you will find on their forum is worth thousands!) before you can post anything.

I also have some tips and ideas on making money from home with your computer on my website: http://myspace-addingvaluetoothers.info
Genuine concern for others is a lifestyle more than a technique.

Medical and Legal Transcription is also an option. If you have any experience with transcription and access to the needed equipment, you can work from home for a variety of companies. There are several transcription training courses available online as well. Another option would be to become a Virtual Assistant. As businesses clamor to cut costs, it is often cheaper and easier for them to outsource some or all of their administrative duties.

If you really want to generate some supplemental income just look in the mirror and ask yourself, "What am I really passionate about?"

Once you can answer that questions, go to GoDaddy.com buy a domain name, get hosting and start blogging about that passion.

If you're really into crochet, and your blogging about corchet, you're going to find a market, and if you get enough traffic to your site you're going to make some money off something called "Google AdSense" (don't know what that is? Google it). Once your get some real traffic to your site you can stat making some real income off of product placement. Basically the top manufacturers or retailers that make and sell products for your specific niche will pay you to use their products on videos of your site and etc.,

Basically if you're writing, and producing content about something that you love it makes life all the much easier.

After reading the "How to make money blogging" entry here at Christian PF, I decided to give it a go. I've been working on it for about 6 weeks now and have made $11.00 so far. Not any sort of bank yet but the income potential is unlimited and you get to be your own boss.

    Good Luck,
