    Default Bible Verses about Sleep

I've had nights when it has been really difficult to fall asleep and I knew the bible said some stuff about sleep, but I never did the research to find a bunch of verses to stand on. I just got an email from a friend of mine (Jim) with a load of bible verses that I am planning on taking advantage of when I am having a hard time falling asleep... I generally don't have insomnia issues, but if I ever did these would be good to have in the back pocket...

Here are some great scriptures to replace negative self-talk about sleeping. Read these throughout the day or before retiring for the next 30 days, and trust God to give you sleep and rest He desires us to have! Good medicine!

Psa 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.

Psa 127:2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Pro 3:24 When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Ecc 5:12 The sleep of a laboring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep.

Psa 16:9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.

Isa 30:15 For thus saith the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel; In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength:

Isa 57:2 He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

Mat 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

Mat 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Heb 4:10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

My wife, forwarded that email from Jim to me the other day. Those verses really speak to me, especially since I've had quite a few restless nights over the past few months (which I believe are from work-related stress).

Very cool, I've suffered from insomnia for as long as I can remember. I was pretty addicted to sleeping pills for about 10 years. It got to the point where I would be taking 3 or 4 every night to try to get to bed. Now I just try not to worry about it much. I am a wreck every morning (been waking up at 6am with school) But I still can't fall asleep until at least 12:30-1:00am every night.

Ouch! Years back I had similar sleeping patterns...but it was because I was staying up too late playing video games. :P Changing that habit did wonders for my overall health.

    Hey guys
I'm right there with you in your struggle to sleep. I found little to help tackle this issue from a spiritual angle. As i studied this topic i was overwhelmed to learn how much God has to say about sleep. In fact, Psalm 121 says that God never slumbers or sleep. It's awesome to understand that God has our back in our sleep or during our sleeplessness. His eyes never close. Check out surrenderedsleep.com-- I've got a free downloadable podcast and a free downloadable chapter that may help when things begin to race through your mind as you prepare to get some shut eye.
