With the downturn of the economy and jobs disappearing, saving money has become a priority for many households. Everyone knows the general ways to save money; using coupons, shopping sales, cutting costs. But what about the less known ways to save? Here are 5 tips that will put more money back in your wallet.
1. Buy Online
For most items, you are able to get a better deal online than you are in the store. Sites like Amazon.com or Ebay.com can give you up to a 25% savings. Do a quick search before you decide to head to the mall, you never know how much you could end up saving.
2. Shut unused vents
Shutting vents in unused rooms (i.e. guest rooms, guest bathrooms) can save you on your heating and cooling bills
3. Get organized and avoid missed payments
Late fees can add up. Have you ever misplaced a bill and found it after the due date? Get organized using a service like HarMoney (http://www.harmoneybillpay.com/). This can eliminate the need to track bills and due dates.
4. Buy gas on Tuesday
We all have to buy it, why not buy it when its cheapest. Gas stations raise prices as the week progresses and drop them at the start of the week. Tuesday early morning is the cheapest time to buy.
5. Threaten to cancel
Threatening to cancel TV or phone service can save you big bucks. The company will lose more over time if they lose you as a customer. The discount they offer to keep you as a customer is worth it to them. Using this method, I received a free cell phone and $15 off my monthly phone service.
