Advice before starting a blog

I've just recently discovered Bob's blog and it has definitely inspired me. I am considering starting a blog related to my profession. My question for you bloggers out there, what kind of copywright rules/laws are there concerning info you post on your blog? Specifically, can you post pictures and other information you find from websites? My idea includes research of companies in my profession.

I am not a lawyer so take this with a grain of salt.

Fair use - If you re-publish snippets of information from another website and make comments on it you are ok. Always include a link to the website where the original information came from. I am not sure about photos. Many sites allow you to re-use their photos for non commercial purposes. You can also find royalty free photos online as well.

If you want to be sure always look for a Creative Commons license (hate spelling that word cause I never seem to spell it right). Those spell out how you can use the photo and what is prohibited.

If you want to reprint full articles from a website, look to see if they have the rights spelled out. If they don't email or contact them to see if you can republish and how they would like to be linked too.

Starting a blog is really a easy process but after starting a blog most of people quit blogging because they don't have Patience to do that work. But you're asking starting a blog to your profession. It really a nice idea to combine your professional life with a blog and it works for so many people too.

Coming to the using other works within your blog is not a good idea and it won't helps in any manner. Thinking for using images of others? don't worry go to flickr.com and choose Creative Commons licensed image and give like to that image where you have taken from.
