Wordpress.org/.com for blogs?

Hi Guys! I have 2 blogs hosted on wordpress.com, well hosted by hostgator but through wordpress.com. I was just reading Bob's "How to Make Money with a Blog" article and he mentioned wordpress.org for self hosting. I knew about this because I've read this article and others before but it just dawned on me I'm on the other wordpress! Does it matter since I have it technically hosted somewhere else? Or do you think I should switch over?
