Was it really that awful?

So, recently I heard on the radio about somebody who accidentally flew a Japanese flag on Memorial Day. I know there are still amounts of tension, but was it really that big of a deal if they didn't know the flag was up? Was it really necessary for the radio DJ's to say the flag should be burned?

On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give flying a Japanese Flag on memorial day an 8 for awefulness. (How do you make a mistake like that?)
