4jacks,
Congrtulations! That is a good mark to reach.
Now What do you do with that car payment?
I think you know you put that toward other debts or start a "New Car Fund".
This vehicle will not last forever.
It's nice to not have any car payments isn't it.
It is, indeed!Originally Posted by pochax

Well, we do have one last debt, a student loan for just over $9,000.Originally Posted by clydewolf
However, we are going to put paying that off on hold, becuase we need to look at moving. As I've mentioned previously, we live w/ my brother and that was never meant to be permanent. The longer we stay the better off financially we are, however we really need to move out in 6-8 months.
So we will be stock piling our house savings fund for now, and in about 5-6 months we will start looking for either a small home to rent or a nice apartment. It will be a little difficult because we have two dogs.
We will also beef up our emergency fund. We will both be keeping our cars for a very long time. I drive an 02 Honda civic, and she has the 05 Scion Tc (toyota) So we will sit in them for a long time. Once we get settled in a new house we will work on a savings plan to replace them. Till then if something catastrophic happens to them we will be stuck picking up a junker and driving that.
4jacks,
Thanks for the feedback.
We wish you the best on finding the house that is right for you!
Keep up the good work on your finances.
Have a little celebration on this success!
Congrats Patrick!
Tristan that is so nice of you to let me borrow your G35 this weekend for your 10 Day Give!![]()

Seriously, though, if you and Linda want to borrow it just let me know. And if you need to fill up, just remember -- it only takes premium!![]()
only a techie would know that there was a secret [Sarcasm] tag![]()
Congratulations!
I didn't have a car payment for almost two years, then I decided I needed a new car because I didn't have time to take my old car into the shop to get fixed. I don't like having a car payment. That is what I think I'm going to focus on paying off next.
Thanks DK,
Just an update on our plans. Heather and I sat and talked things through again. We've decided to pay off the Student Loan first, and then save for a house, It might take a little bit longer, but it's the better thing to do.
My wife and I have a car payment and it feels like we are in bondage... Thankfully we have been working hard at paying it off and have around 2000 dollars left on it. Our goal is to have it paid off this summer
Used all my tax return last year to pay off my car. Now I'm finally, totally free from debt!
Congrats Joseph, that is awesome. Cant wait to join you,
Congratulations on paying off your car! i hope moving goes well
Congrats! I can say 'Yeah and Amen'! I know how good it feels! We finished our car payments as well a few months ago. Very nice to not see that amount getting drawn out of the account every month.
Talking about tax returns, we used ours this year to pay off all our back rent, and even paid ahead for the rest off the year! Good feeling not to have that hanging over our heads anymore!
Genuine concern for others is a lifestyle more than a technique.
Thanks MMO, glad to say we are now completely debt free. I never thought about paying our rent in advance, That would be awesome to not have that payment, but one part of me would fight giving them a free loan. Our property company has a promotion where if you pay early X number of days you are entered into a drawing and one person from the development wins $150 off thier rent the next month. We won that once, so now we always try to pay early if we can.
We paid off the remaining $4000 on our car last month! Praise God we are debt free!
Cheeetaaaaaaaaah!
