    Default Unemployed.... but not worried

For me, I consider this a success story:

Approximately a year and half ago, I finally dug in myself and started a savings fund of approximately 6 months worth of expenses....... which, along with a severance check, has proven to be one of the main reasons that I have little anxiety during a time when I should.
I was laid off approximately 7 weeks ago and although it is disheartening, having that emergency fund in place made me feel more confident. I knew ( and still know ) that I don't have to panic, don't have to worry as much, and that along with a budget, my family and I will be ok.

I don't know when I will be back to work.

I don't know when I will be back to putting money away for the future.

But it was sure nice to have a cushion to land on.

    That's really awesome JT.

I just got the bad news that one of my good friends was laid off yesterday. It's a tough tough time to have to job hunt.

Great story Joshuatree. Goes to show that success has less to do with the stuff that happens (that you can't control) and more to do with how you prepared for those situations and work through them.

Always remember that God has always a plan and a purpose to each one of us. We might not know it right away but His plan for us is to prosper us and not to harm us, to give us hope and a future. Never lose hope and put Him first in everything you want to plan. (Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you)Accompany it with all your smart goals in life, you will soon succeed.

It is so important for everyone to have an emergency fund in place, especially with the economy being the way it is. It's great that you posted your story, as it helps others see the importance of it, and hopefully will encourage those that don't have one to implement one.

So great to hear! My hubby and I went through the same thing (he has been laid off 4 times in the past). The first time we were in no way ready/prepared and were so in debt, but each time we learned more and got our emergency fund bigger and learned to trust in God with each passing day. God is soo good! He watched over us and I see He's doing the same for you!

One site that I know will help is:

    www.savingwithrenee.com

She helps people learn to look at money differently, gives various ways to save and get out of debt as well as show that you need to be giving and blessing others at the same time.

God has got a plan for you! Can't wait to see what He does!

Great story. I'll surely do what you've done while you still have a job and that is to save. In the current economy, you can't really tell when you'll be off on a job so saving is really a wise thing to do while you are still working.
