God’s economy

God’s promises are not contingent on the state of the U.S. economy!

I am not sure if you need to hear this, but I have days when I need a gentle reminder. As Christians we are children of God and are not limited by the circumstances around us. We have God’s promises that He is going to provide for us, no matter what it looks like.

ScreenShot001 Our job is to simply believe. As Bono put it in Walk On, “(it) has to be believed to be seen.” We all would love to be able to see things manifest and then believe them, but remember what Jesus said to Thomas?

Jesus said to him, “Is it because you have seen me that you have believed? How blessed are those who have never seen me and yet have believed!”

God’s economy is strong

I wrote a couple days ago that we should be paying down our debts in response to the economy’s challenges. As far as our stewardship goes, I think this is a good practical step for us to take. But even great stewards still need to trust God to meet their needs.

I am praying for our nation that the economic challenges will clear up, but either way I know I have to be trusting God. If I really believe that God is my supply and source, then I should be just as confident that my needs will be met when they look good as when they look terrible.

The truth is that God’s economy is strong and will never be in a depression or even a recession. God is not short on cash and He is a great father who is faithful to take care of his kids.

You can’t out-give God

I remember hearing someone say that you can’t out-give God. From my experience I have found this to be true. I guess that is what Paul meant in 2 cor 9:6…

“he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully”

Just like a farmer knows that by planting more seeds, he will have more crops in harvest, we should be confident that giving more is going to produce a larger harvest. Regardless of where you stand on the tithing debate, there is no debate that we are all called to give. And, even in this economy, maybe we should be giving more as a declaration of our faith that God is true to His word! (for a faith-builder check out these encouraging bible verses)

If you give to others ONLY because you expect to “produce a larger harvest”, then you’re giving for the WRONG reason. Your focus is on your selfish needs and what you hope to gain from your action.

I can’t recall where I heard it from, could be from a sermon from crown or intouch.org. But it was basically saying that when God wants to destroy a nation, he often starts with their economy.

That is what I see happening now. Our economy is not doing well at all. In fact, I would bet that it will never be the same again.

Good post Bob. Personally, I’ve heard that saying: You can’t outgive God, several years ago and that remained in me ever since. The other fact that will not leave me is although we still have the 90%, He still owns it all!

I don’t believe in the prosperity teachings of tithing because that is not the essence of tithing at all.

FinancialBondage: you are so right! The economy is not doing well at all and financial experts, prophets, economists already forecast a huge nose dive [the real shaking], beginning the second half of 2010 and many other scenarios will follow, like a domino effect.

It all boils down to the heart of the nation….where is it? There is a need to go back to the real root of the problem.
