HD Car Stereo for under $50?

My CD player in my car broke last week. Bummer. I, like you, have heard the never-ending HD radio commercials. I didn’t really care about getting an HD radio that much, but since I am getting one anyway, why not at least look into it.

It turns out that Crutchfield.com (probably the best place in the world to buy a car stereo by the way) has a Dual Car stereo that plays MP3 CDs, has an aux input, and is HD radio ready for $49.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate.

Here is a pic of it for your viewing pleasure…

HD Radio Stations

I also wasn’t sure how many HD radio stations there were in my town, so I did a little digging and you can find out how many HD stations there are near you by clicking here.

So, anyway, I only bring this up because it seems to be a pretty good deal. I wouldn’t have bought an HD radio if mine hadn’t gone out, but now I am a little excited to get it! I will let you know how I like it…

And here are some other articles I have been reading this last week…

HD Radio – i can’t imagine it being that much better than regular radio – but I could be wrong! My impression was that it was just jumping on the HD craze started by HD televisions.

Thanks for the link!

Wow – I never realized there were that many HD radio stations near where I live. Seems like a pretty good deal so why not be able to get HD stations as well as normal ones. And thanks very much for the link!

When I’m in the car, I’m there for all of 15 minutes at most. My AM/FM radio and CD player are more than enough to get me through my short commute. It sounds like a great deal for you, but I think I’ll pass. Thanks for highlighting my article!

Bad news! I just checked Crutchfield and it looks like they pulled this rebate off! I don’t know if it is somehow linked to my IP address, but sorry to everyone if the deal is now over…

The stereo says HD ready…. don’t you need an optional piece to complete it’s HD-ness?

@Tippy
it actually says “HD Radio” and it does have a HD tuner built in…
