Great gain comes from contentment

It is absolutely scriptural that God wants to bless and prosper us (3john1.2, psa35.27), but it is also true that, “Godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied with CONTENTMENT.”(1tim6.6) The three verses below make a pretty solid case for the need for contentment in our lives.

Philippians 4:11
Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
1 Timothy 6:8
If we have food and covering, with these we shall be content.
Hebrews 13:5
Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have;

Contentment comes from a thankful heart. When we realize (regardless of our current circumstances) how wealthy and how many blessings there are in our lives, it is easier to be content. Truly thanking God for what we have been given is an indicator that we are on the right track.

One way can prove that we are content is to take care of what has been given. If we appreciate what God has given us, then we will take good care of it and make the most of it.

Saying how miserable you are until you get a new _____ doesn’t exactly express appreciation. On the other hand, if we really try to make the most of what we have, we are proving that we are content and I believe, pleasing to God.

Just think of the situation that millions of fathers are in with their sons. How much easier is it for the fathers to toss the keys to their sons if they know their sons will take care of the car. If the father has seen his son diligently take care of other gifts he has been given, he will be able to trust his son with a much larger gift. Should it be any different with God?

He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much. -Luk16.10
