How To Start A Business You Love

Many of us are trying to find that ever-elusive job that promises prosperity and satisfaction. There are are some opportunities that we take merely for the money, and others that give us great enjoyment without a proper wage. Is it possible to find employment that is fun yet financially sound?

If you’re wanting to start your own dream business, it can be difficult to find something that you will enjoy for the long haul. If you’re only chasing after money, you won’t be happy. We all know money doesn’t buy happiness! Likewise, if we simply do something we enjoy, and don’t have an income, we might become financially ill.

A Few Ideas To Start

Alright, so where do we start? Here are a few ideas I’ve collected that can help you find your niche in the marketplace:

  • Take state employment assessment exams. Head over to your state’s government website to see if they have an assessment exam. These tests help you find new areas of business where you would thrive.
  • Ask people where they work and what they do! You might be surprised. The responses you can get might inspire you to try something new. Conversations with everyday people broaden your horizons and help you find something that you may have never considered otherwise.
  • Ask yourself what you do for fun. Oftentimes what you do for enjoyment can be turned into a job. Think of ways to turn your hobby into cash! Make a list of things you enjoy doing in your spare time, and figure out what jobs fit those hobbies.
  • Consider what you’re skilled at! It is not enough to merely consider what you enjoy doing. You must ask yourself if you’re good at it! If you’re skilled and enjoy your work, you will be more satisfied than ever.

As you seek out your dream business, make sure to take a lot of notes. Write everything down. This ensures that you don’t forget all the ideas you’ve recently discovered, and will help you see your progress.

After you have a pretty good idea of what business you’d like to start, you’re going to need a great business model. Don’t get in over your head! Make sure you take small steps toward achieving your goal. Ask those already in the business how they’ve been successful and if they’d be willing to give you tips for getting your feet off the ground.

Your dream business doesn’t need to come to fruition all at once. If you don’t have all the puzzle pieces in place yet, don’t be afraid to start. Slowly get used to the new business environment, and you’ll do fine.

A Personal Story

I remember when I started figuring out my dream business. I had three passions: counseling, personal finance, and technology. The convergence of these passions pushed me to start my own website about personal finance. Believe me, I went through a lot of different occupations before I arrived at something I enjoyed.

It’ll probably be the same way for you. Discovering your dream business will take time and much effort. It’s not always about finding that dream business, sometimes it’s about finding what doesn’t work first. Trial and error plays a huge role in finding that business niche that you can call your own. But don’t worry – seek and you’ll find. Now you’re on your way to discovering your dream business. The question is: are you ready?

How have your business pursuits changed with time? What would you consider your dream job to be?

Thanks for this post! I’ve been working at finding something for at least 2-3years and it can get so discouraging! I think I’m on the right path now but I know that as I grow and change as a person so will my businesses so its really never ending, but honestly, that’s half the fun!

God Bless!

I’ve been working on a side business… and while I enjoy blogging, I haven’t managed to monetize my blog just yet. There are still a couple of ideas floating around (on a list) that I have yet to try, however.

My dream job? Get paid to ride my motorcycle. The route to doing this? I’m thinking either blog about it and sell advertising/affiliate sales, or start a touring company where I lead group trips.

Just yesterday my daughter and I decided to try to get ready to open a thrift store so we both could earn income and be available to our youger children, she has 2 and I have 2 young ones too-so having this be my first news letter from you and it’s about procrastination and starting a business etc. is and amazing answer to me asking the Lord for guidance in this. I am loving your website and wanted to say thank you.
