One thing I would caution against: Over-planning.

Some people constrict themselves because of how much they plan.

Always look at a plan as a rough draft. You aren't stuck to your plan, and quite frankly should only treat it as a framework. You SHOULD deviate from it or you aren't capitalizing on your opportunities.

Planning is not my best skill unfortunately. It's very important because you need it in every sector and every company or even in your personal life!

Great post, Michael.

I, too, have been considering what I might need to do in the event that one of my grandparents (or even parents) were to die and leave me any amount of money. Knowing myself, I am a rather emotional person and it would be very easy for me to use any money I received in a reactionary sort of way. I have a plan for everything else financial, so why not this?

I really like the percentages you have laid out here and will probably use something very similar in my own planning. Thanks!

Not only just a plan but in some cases a back up plan or emergency plan. Whether with debt, finances, or life in general, having a plan is the key to success.
