iPhone 4 Death Grip | Roundup

This is completely off-topic, but have you heard about the iPhone Death Grip?

Apparently the new iPhone 4′s internal antenna is placed in the wrong spot of the phone, so when users hold it a certain way the reception is thrown off.

According to this article

Since the launch of the iPhone 4 last week, Apple has been deluged with complaints about poor reception, which many consumers say is directly related to the way the iPhone 4 is held. In the blogosphere, the bug even has its own name: The iPhone 4 death grip.

Although they say a fix is in the works, it is a surprising design flaw for Apple. I am an Apple fan, but I have heard quite a few negative remarks about the new iPhone. It’s bumming me out, because it seems like every day Apple seems to be more and more like Microsoft.

I am currently a Droid user, but would probably be an iPhone owner if AT&T had even decent reception at my house. I am starting to wonder if that would be a mistake…

Do you have any thoughts on the new iPhone or Apple in general?

If not, here are a bunch of articles from around the web you might want to check out…

Thanks for the link and mention Bob! I thought the Death Grip was a move you can do to snake someone out of their I-Phone! ;)

i bought my iphone and yes there is a clear reception problem when you hold it in a certain way. If i hold it with my left hand and the hand is touching the bottom left hand corner of the phone, the reception clearly goes down to zero. when you let go of that corner, it restores immediately to full signal bars. i ordered a case for it and was told that would fix the problem. But in any case, i don’t hold my phone in a way that blocks reception so it’s all good for me.

Thanks for mentioning my series on Dave Ramsey’s Baby Steps! I think only time will tell with the iPhone Death Grip saga. We’ll see what happens. But knowing Apple, they’ll work out the kinks somehow in the long run. I’d try taking a “wait and see” approach.

I’m not concerned with the iPhone signal problem. I was planning to use a case anyway, so that solves the problem.

I think the biggest “flaw” of the iPhone’s design is that it’s been made of incredibly hard glass. While it looks amazing, that also means that it WILL shatter if dropped too many times. Hardness might reduce the chance of scratches, but it also makes it more brittle! Apple obviously decided the tradeoff was worth it, but I won’t be caught without a case.

I stayed away from both smart phone giants and went with the Pre. It’s not perfect, but it suits my needs!

:-) It’s the kind of thing that makes me glad I can’t afford any cell phone!
