When I think of the "foolish" virgins, I am reminded of those who were of Galatia that Paul wrote to. Paul called them "foolish" Galatians who were bewitched from the truth, they were following the works of the law as part of salvation which made them foolish. Seeing the bible uses the keyword "foolish" in both passages, I believe there is some hidden wisdom here which connects those who were of Galatia and those "foolish" virgins. Interesting.

Re: Sevel-Eleven didn't even exist them!

Not only that, but Seven-Eleven was originally open from 7 in the morning until 11 in the evening, hence its name.

24-hour selling is a very very recent marketing innovation.

I so appreciate your posts- they are helpful , informative and shame-busting! Thank you for addressing finances in simple terms and encouraging people to trust in God while working hard to be free. You have inspired me to call my credit cards and get the rates lowered- not by anger or fear but gentle persistence. One card I called instantly gave me $350.00 credit to my account. I thanked them but told them that wasn't enough and I needed the APR lowered because I wanted to pay off the debt. I talked to three more people and while I was on hold for the fouth person , istening to strange elevator music on hold the music suddenly stopped and a person began talking saying, " We all fall into hard times , we all fall into adversity and during those times we need to say the words from this song that my friend wrote - we need to say the words MERCY< MERCY< MERCY!" and then this beautiful song came on about mercy. I was holding the phone and crying wondering how my call to Citibank just tapped into heaven. The next person I spoke to was able to give me 0% APR for five years with a low monthly payment so we could pay off the bill. I was ecstatic! As we have prayed about our debt we are reminded that the Lord has paid all our debt, so hidden in Him we have no more shame and because of that we can tackle the practical paying back to others what we owe. There is so much joy and hope and freedom in that. Thankyou for your writings -they really have been instrumental in releasing us from fear and shame and bondage, they have helped my husband and I get on the same page without conflict . We have tried other Christian financial plans and always felt like failures because we couldn't get to the next level. Sometimes its the heart work and faithfulness that needs to be concentrated on. Keep up the great work!! alittle about us My husband ,Jay and I have been married 27 years have seven children, homeschool , two are now in college and we live off my husbands salary and freelance income. We live in beautiful upstate NY in Hyde Park. My husband is a designer, writer, speaker- jaycookingham.com
Thank you again!

I have a monthly income of $900, rent of $650 (for a room in a house with nine people), medical expense of $110, and a student loan garnishment of $135.

How can I prepare for an emergency fund?

Excellent post, excellent reminders, especially about making preparations out of a desire to be wise stewards, not because of fear. When fear is the reason we are doing something (except maybe running from a wild boar or something), we tend to miss out on balance and opportunities and we being to rely on ourselves ( and in the case of the wild boar, just think of him as an angry, animated piece of jerky and you'll be just fine....)

Thanks for the excellent reminder. If only we'd all pay attention to the lessons we've been given in God's Word. We'd all be a lot better off.
