I would be careful about having collectors stop calling unless I specify that future communications will be through the mail. No communication at all could be a trigger for a law suit. Also, the FTC (paragraph 809 of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) requires collectors to send a written validation notice within five days after contacting you. Insist that the collector do so.
