I wanted to make a comment about making money with decorative painting. As a graphic artist by trade, I never dreamed of doing this, myself. It was a total God thing, if you know what I mean. The Lord is so good and stretches us in ways that benefit us in the long run. I started by doing faux painting for my mom and sister and then the Lord open doors to do it for others. Now I do this full time. The Holy Spirit answered my cry to find an easier, cost efficient way to faux finish and He gave me a whole new system that I cannot faux without. And the beautiful thing is that I get asked into homes that I would never have been invited to. This gives me an opportunity to share Christ with new people. God is so good!

Great post. I’ve had people tell me both ways: “do what you love” and “do what allows you to do what you love.” Both, I think, are valid. However, I’ve now come up with my own hybrid motto: “Do what you love, and spend and save in a way that allows you to do what you love.” A little bit longer, and less catchy – but good nonetheless. I tried out the business world for awhile and despite its potential for riches, I love teaching elementary school so much more. And, despite people’s perceptions about teacher salaries, I make out just fine.
