What does the Bible say about Money?

by Bob on December 30, 2007

Bible page about moneyI have been working on the Money in the Bible page here at ChristianPF. I found that many of the Bible topic books were concordance based, so they only had scriptures with an exact keyword in them (i.e. only scriptures with the word “giving” would fall under the topic of giving). Unfortunately, this can leave out quite a few really good and pertinent verses on many of the topics.

So, I have been compiling verses by topic over the last few months and while it is in no way an exhaustive list, it is a start. I will continue to update it and add to it as I stumble on verses or new topics.

If you haven’t checked it out recently, take a look and let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions.

Wow, that is impressive! I will have to come back and spend some more time going through it. Romans 13:8 has been a spiritual center piece of my financial life.

Best Wishes,

Talents in biblical times refer to a weight or amount of money one has.

Like in the parable of the talents, it reminds us all gifts are precious and should be used to their full. Like the two good servants, God will reward those who are faithful with what has been entrusted to them. HOwever, “like the wicked servant, those who fail to use the gifts God has given them for his service will be punished and separation from God and all things good (Bloomsberg 2/4).

As I said before, talents in biblical times refrred to units of weight for precious metals. This was the measurement used in Ancient Rome and Greece. A talent was an amount of money equal to the wages of a day laborer for 15 years. During the Middle Ages, the church defined a talent as a God given gift that should be used to serve others.
