Hey great article! As a matter of fact, I took a day off in October to do exactly as you suggest. As you’ve stated, it is so much easier to get in contact with all of the services and companies that I needed to during those 9-5 work days. This year is coming to a close very soon and I will take a couple more days off in December to get everything in order to file taxes early in 2011!

Focus on diversifying your income. Come up with a business plan or idea. Take the plunge to start that side business. Go find a part time job. Find a way to make more money!

This is a great tip! One I have actually done, to a certain extent. If you actually have a list and stay focused, you’d be amazed at all you can get done! Another thing you could do with that saved time, is if you have any big purchases coming up it can definitely save some money to do a little extra research to find the best price. I’ve found if I have to make purchase decisions after a long work day I just want to get it over with! And usually find out later I could have gotten a better price. Also, recently I spent part of my day organizing a bunch of bills and papers, to save more time in the future. Also caught a few things I needed to pay before they were past-due, so I guess that counts as saving money!

Surfing for online deals is another good way to improve your fiscal health.

Take a day off each week to rest. I mean that literally. Do nothing. This works for me as I don’t feel burned-out for the rest of the week. And when I do, I’m better (sometimes faster) at completing tasks and I’m left with at least 5 hours for side hustles.

What a great idea! I will have to schedule a vacation day for that in 2011

#15 – Cancel something.

If you’re like me you have subscriptions and services you don’t need any longer, but it’s a great hassle to cancel them.
